Play In Steering

I have noticed quite a bit of play in my elise s2 steering, and at first suspected the rack but on closer inspection it looks like it's the universal joints from the column that have worn. I can also feel it through the steering wheel.

Couple of questions can you get these off easy or do you need to remover the column or pull the rack forward? Also what car are the ujs off? They just can't be just lotus.

When I had the same thing, I sure they were able to tighten them rather than replace them.

Tried tightening but appears to the loose in the ball joint nuckle :-(
