Hi there,

P1336  S2 Crankshaft Position System Variation Not Learned

My car: 2003 Elise 111s K series

Had a good old wait for my car to be fixed, So after a nice long holiday I've come back and had my brand new ECU fitted to my S2 elise, which fixed my fault code but has now through up another which is not covered under my warranty...

Happy days :/

Tried contacting my local Lotus garage but no luck so will try tomorrow. I thought id post to see if anyone could share some light on what could be the problem or if anyone has had this before come up?

Ive looked on the internet and what i can see there are a crank sensor and cam sensor that may need replacing?

Since buying the car I've had nothing but problems, im hoping this could be a quick fix as im losing all hope on this beast!

Cheers

Well if the fault was not there before you had the ecu replaced, I would be taking it back. How many miles have you done on new ecu?should re learn after twenty odd miles. Is it in limp mode? Suspect sensor or wiring. Do you have receipt from lotus for new ecu?

Hi there,

There was a engine management light on and error code coming up when i bought the car, something to do with the vvc. After the garage tried solenoids and checked it over the garage that fixed it narrowed the fault down to a problem with the ecu. Apparently there was a burnt chip (something to do with the vvc) or something on the ecu board. He sent it away to be reconditioned but the company said it was no good to repair so he ordered a new one off of lotus. I had it fixed today and he plugged the car in on the diagnostic and the original fault code has been cleared but another fault has come up.

So the engine management light is still on. He said its a new fault code and probably just a sensor but my crappy warranty doesn't cover sensors (not much of a warranty) I drove the car back 50 miles from when its been and the light is still on.

Im just hoping its an easy fix.

Also car is not in limp mode and drives normally. The guy at the garage told me that the vvc would not be working with this fault code coming up. So I've been driving around with a non working vvc on my lotus. I went out for a drive with my friend a few weeks back and he has the same car and there seemed to be no difference? Im not that mechanically minded so its a bit of a pain in the ass.

Its kind of ruined the whole experience to be honest but im desperate to get it right.

This might help, due to new ecu.

They are brilliant cars when working. You will learn loads, which is part of the fun!

Thanks so much guys for the help, looking at the link helped loads. Also rang a guy at a local lotus specialist to confirm that he would need to go down to Lotus to get it sorted with the lotus scan tool. He tried to do it manually before and he says its just too tricky.

The guy who apparently worked at a lotus garage for 25 years after fitting my ecu told me i needed a new sensor and to take it down lotus, he didn't even know this job needed doing. Lesson learnt.

Thanks again!
