Sundaydriver
Hi, Bought an Azure Blue S1 this afternoon. I'm chuffed, it was close by, a nice chap selling it, took the plunge on this, my first Lotus, after about thirty five years lusting after owning one! I'm aiming it to be a good base to work with, as it's pretty much standard. I want to get a specialist to check her over and see if there's anything amiss. Was thinking of Matty, as the car is in Hereford area it'll be a short hop. Did I mention I'm chuffed ;-) http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/elise-s1/lotus-elise-elise------------------1998/2334569

Sundaydriver
Thanks for replies. Chatsworth sounds very possible, I'm Derbyshire born and bred :-) Any regular monthly meets nearer to Glos ?
DeanB
I don't think we have any regular meets down that way - Sutton Coldfield is probably nearest and I suppose that's not near at all!
Dennis
We'll done and welcome (but I can't help thinking you should have checked if anything amiss before buying it, there again a S1 should always be bought with the heart rather than the head )
Sundaydriver
Dennis, you're so right. I broke my first rule, never buy the first one you see! It just felt right though, and the guy is a decent chap, I bought 'him' to be honest , the car seemed very good afaik. After a test ride , and look over the fsh I gave myself ten minutes outside alone with the car to mull over whether I'd even offer him atall. Then I made a silly offer, and refused to budge, after five minutes of me sticking to my guns I met him at £100 up on my offer. Went with my gut , not my heart. I was happy to walk. So I can tell you It wasn't a rash purchase, the colour isn't my first choice , nor the interior, and I'd have preferred more Bhp ideally. I was cool as a cucumber ! The interior is almost mint, partly as it was refurbed in 07, the engine is strong, whilst the fuel pump was noisy, the car seemed to hang together well, and all the history stacked up well. Four new tyres , cam belt sorted, garaged it's whole life, pampered, and driven hard I'm Sure, but accident free. Original Bell & Colville plates and stickers , service manual , and salesmans business card. Worst points are rusty spring clips ( that hold the section in by roll bar ...... ?? ) , and scratches to paintwork from Allen key for rag top. Also one tiny section 'the size of a pea' on the dash is chipped by the radio slot. I'm almost certain she will benefit from a suspension refresh due to mileage, and I'll be much happier after Mattys have had a look over it :-)
MilesH
Hi, I'm not far from you, in Cirencester. I moved over this way a few years back (from Birmingham) and it's a bit of an inbetween region for meets etc. MLOC tends to stretch more from Birmingham to Nottingham/Derby and everything inbetween when it comes to meets, and SELOC tends to stretch from Swindon and accross the east and West. Whereas we seem to be in the middle. MLOC are a great bunch and I've made some great friends over the years and still travel to meet up on trackdays and catch ups. So if you don't mind the drive it's worth the effort You're always welcome to pop over to Ciren for a run and and there are a few of us over this way. And if you're looking for a garage over this way let me know as I can strongly recommend a couple. Cheers
Dennis
Although I viewed lengthy and went all over the country to find my S1, I ended up buying one that in theory I should have walked away from, keyed down one side gel coat cracks stone chips etc but it did have a hard top and it was in the right colour, they were going to repainting the damaged areas but I knew it would not be up to my standards and would prefer to sort it myself at my chosen body shop so a deal was struck to cover some of the full respray cost and the rest is history. 12 years later and we are still together and having loads of fun (although it has changed a bit ;0)
Alex B
For an example of a rough s1 just look at mine... It's certainly not perfect, but it serves the purpose I require it too.
