111R 06 Heater Fan Kaput

Hammered

Recommended Posts

It made some peculiar noises for a while. Then a burning smell. Worked when it felt like it and now it's no more.

My question is, is there any possible upgrade available. Or do I have no other option than to replace it with another crap unit ??

Any advice welcomed!

Its not usually the fan, its the resistor pack on the bottom of the fan. Especially if you leave it out/use it in the wet. The water collects under the fan and cannot drain away easily, so you steam up, and it corrodes (the resistor pack), and overheats and wiring burns out as resistance goes high.

There is an updated conversion pack (£120 ish) and moves the resistors into the fan structure, and replaces part of the fried loom. It may seem pricey but when you see it its not bad value. This service update also advises to drill 4-6 drain holes in the floor to aid drainage!

If you have air con, its a clam off jobbie. I'm pretty sure the 111R has the bigger fan so, consider it clam off. probably 6-8hrs labour unless you do it yourself. Also, what year is your 111r, as they swapped to the newer kit on the 111r 2007 I think (don't quote me on that tho)

I had the same thing on mine 111R 2 weeks after I bought it (2nd hand) it was repaired under warrantee - but I understood it was a clam-off job. 6 hours work I think - mines an 06 reg, I hope they fitted the upgraded unit as 4 years later it is probably due to go again. It lives outside and is driven in all weathers.

Your next problem will be the central locking module will fail and lock you out

But if you are like me - then nothing else over the next 30,000 miles

The upgraded resistor pack sits on the metal plate at the end of the main HVAC. I am afraid the clam has to come off as you need to attached the plate onto the end of the HVAC.

If you look at the technical wiki on SELOC you will see my pictures from some years ago of the upgraded pack. The idea is that the resistors are protected being higher up and being inside the HVAC.

Will you be doing it yourself?

Front clam off is not as bad as all that nor is changing the pack. Very doable on a Saturday afternoon, a copy of the service book and few beers.

Sure I can manage this. Where is best place too buy a copy of service book and the part ?

I think I have a PDF at work of the manual, I can email it over (I bet you can download from somewhere if you Google) but the link above looks perfect. Those bolts btw either side just under the windscreen surround no.4 will need some forward thought. I haven't bothered putting mine back in and if I did it would be something I could easliy get to and hand tighten. You'll need Cider not Larger on a warm Summer afternoon lol.

Come on Jonny - its not that easy .... because you then find other jobs you want to do as well ...

Braided hoses

New/refurb the tow hook

New Rad & fans / condenser

New spots

I needed a new hot cold flap actuator - only found this out just as I was about to put the clam back on and had to wait 2 weeks for it!

I just used this for identifying the positions. Use a ratchet ring spanner for location 3. This is more awkward than 4 as it takes time and you don't want to drop anything.

I found these easy?? Maybe my socket set & adapters fit better.

Hardest bit is the Chinese puzzle of getting the HVAC/blower out as its a tight squeeze, but read the seloc wiki and take note about lifting it up and over to the DS first.

Bugger. My heating fan stopped blowing today. Looks like I may have all this to look forward to.

Other than the fuse & the resistor pack - is there anything else that might have gone? The motor?

Mine's an S2 2006. Its got no aircon - hear that it might be possible to fix the resistor pack without taking the clam off?
