Last month I had a problem whereby the Elise wouldn't start due to the heavy rain we had. It took 3 days of constant jump starting from another car and recharging the battery to finally get her up and running again. Even after this, damp mornings were 50/50 whether she would start and she ran really lumpy afterwards.
I then brought new HT leads, new dizzy cap, cleaned the plugs, roto arm and put sealant on the engine plug cover. When I replaced the coil lead I did notice that the connector looked bad inside. After doing all this, she starts really well now.
However....... I now have an idling problem which seem to get worse after 10 mins of driving. She struggles at low revs, occasionally missing and hunting whilst idling. She never stalls but you can hear the dum, dum, dum, nothing, dum pattern of the engine. If you drive at normal speeds its fine, its only when you get below 20 mph does she start to go "lumpy".
I've read that the Air Control Valve could be causing this (will have a look at the weekend) but I've also read that the ECU may have become damaged after all the jump starting?
Just wondering if any of you guys have had this and whether you think the ECU could be at fault? I've definitely never "miss" connected the battery when jump starting.
I guess I should really change the plugs to rule those out as well.
Thanks again for your help
