S1 Boot Lid Loose - Clam Off?

Hi there

My boot lid seems to have gone all wobbly at the hing. Feels like the pivot bolts that secure the hinge have unscrewed and detached them selves.

The manual says it's a clam off job but I was just wondering if it really is?

Thanks again

Julian

No, definitely not a clam off job as I once found out. If you remove the rear window and the clam fasteners in that region it is possible to lever the clam up sufficient to be able to see the offending pivot bolts.

Thanks Phil, will give it a go at the weekend although I don't fancy taking the rear window out much. The clips looks like they haven't been touched since the factory installed them.

Yeah, ditto (just to give you some reassurance). Besides, once you know how to take the rear window out, you'll find it very tempting when the weather gets cooler to give you a little extra warmth coming back from the engine!

Dead easy, remove the roll bar cover, and the glass comes out, there is one over centre catch each side level with the top of seats inside the car.

Brian

Make sure the glass doesn't stick to the rollbar cover then drop off onto the engine cover just as you realise what's happening and reach out to support the glass.

Thanks Phil, finally managed to find some time at the weekend to look at this. Unfortunately when I removed the hing the M6 bolts were missing and the new ones I brought from my local hardware shop didn't fit. I even tried using the M6 bolts that secured the boot lid to the hing bracket but these wouldn't fit either.

I think because I've left it for so long, the old bolts have destroyed the thread so I need to re tap it I guess.

I've got a mate who's got a tap and die set so I'll pop over one evening and try again.

Thanks again
