Some Braking Advice?

I got a toolset for Christmas so I thought I should try and use it.

So this weekend, instead of sitting in the sun i put it on the ramps and changed the, oil, oil-filter and plugs and the air-filter.

So now my next challenge i want to change the disks and pads. So my question is - which pads and which disks (without breaking the bank).

I was thinking the following, but would appreciate some advice.

Disks

Pads

I will be getting Gav to change the fluid!

Thanks

Paul

RC5+ are stunning brake pads. the initial bit is fantastic and i cant get them to fade. Some people have had a problem with them breaking up when run low. I have not had that problem.

Paul if it were me I would go with the CL rc5s. I love the ali belled discs but Russ is right you won't notice the difference and they are dear.

I would also have Gav fit braided hoses to improve feel along with top spec fluid.

I've run those CLs and found them good. However some of the horror stories going about have put me off. If there were no other alternatives I'd be tempted to ignore them as my experience was good, but when there are good alternatives such as the Pagids or the highly recommended Performance Friction I won't be taking the chance.

I used CL pads for about 18 months daily. Whilst I couldn't fault the performance, they would always rust onto the disk if it was wet or damp overnight. I went through two winters with car being stored outside, one day as I broke the pads off the disc as normal the friction material was pulled clean off the backplate, the next time I used the brakes was super scary, luckily it was uphil and using gears and what little brakes were left on the diagonal split I managed to stop.

I'd say the CL pads are ok if the car is kept in the dry and ideally with the handbrake off, if you use it everyday rain or shine then pagids or mintex if you can put up with the dust in the case of the latter.

Pagid rs42 for me... I was one of the horror stories... The CL are a brilliant pad, but if you get them just keep checking them...

If you need a hand give us a shout....

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Certainly given me something to think about!

From what i have read elsewhere it sounds like the cl's are quite dusty which would put me off if others are cleaner and perform as well.

russell, will check out the ebcs.

Thanks

The impression I get is.....

CL great but dusty (and scary as super safety critical, never used them).

Pagid great but will squeal eventually (did for me and wouldn't go away).

PF awesome but dusty (I track mainly and swear by them).

Mintex seem to be a good compromise (mainly road but I have never used them).

All after reading 7 year of threads just like this one.

I have found CL5+ produce less dust than RS14's and a lot less dust than Mintex 1155's

Brian, excellent point about the brakes being wet. Im lucky as mine is garaged. I also never put them away " wet " If its raining or i have washed the car, i left foot brake whilst going backwards and forwards to dry them off. I also never leave the handbrake on in the garage.

I've got the Pagid RS42s on mine, no squeal problems at all? Standard Exige discs and calipers, just copious amounts of copper grease when fitting :)
