M@r]{ Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 So here are the symptoms: * Driving feels like a misfire * free revving doesn't sound like its missing though * trying to keep at a steady speed car kangaroos * if under load / accelerating its ok ish * seems worse at slower speeds * ECU holds a "Pending" fault? Rich on Bank 1 * Starts ok but seems to be struggling to tick over, sometimes stalls * It gradually got worse over a 30mile drive home just now The car is a 2006 Exige S, 25k miles. So a prize for the person who correctly diagnoses the problem If you need any more info / need me to try something else no problem
kayj_prod Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Something contaminating the fuel? Moisture somewhere it shouldn't be? (Total guess, but hey, if there's a prize...
jonnyfox Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Dodgy cheap BP fuel.... That's where I'd start, empty, fill then jump on a motorway for 50 Miles. I've had this spending money that didn't need to be spent however there was a serious fall in revs that got less and less consistent dropping off to normal. Also put the rear wing back on, you may find your car resents its removal ;-)
Stik Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Is this the stutter you originally thought was the cam changeover or is this new? Sorry to hear it's getting worse if so!
M@r]{ Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 It's very similar to that Stik, in fact at first I thought it was. This morning I've removed all the coils and cleaned the contacts with MAF sensor cleaner. I've also disconnected the battery and reconnected. So far no luck. Just in Grantham to full up a couple of 20 Litre Jerry Cans with Shell VPower. Long shot the fuel but I did put Texaco Super in yesterday :/ If that fails call to the AA in the morning and see if I can get it towed to Unit 4. Then hopefully parts and labour covered by AA Parts Labour warranty. Typical this happens on a sunny bank holiday. Think the car is protesting that I first removed the spoiler then yesterday took the roof off
M@r]{ Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 Put new petrol in and it seems worse!!! If I rev in neutral it seems fine, however if I keep the pedal steady the revs are erratic. If I put it into gear and attempt to move it kangaroos really bad, basically undriveable. Also noticed the tail pipe is very black, so much soot! So lots of unburnt fuel going through. Starting to worry about the CAT :/
Steve J Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 If you have discounted coilpack then I'd look at intake manifold for cracks / leaks then check the pre cat lambda sensor is working properly.

M@r]{ Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Good news my car will be mobile later for sure Bad news it'll be on the back of a Lowloader It seemed even worse this morning, not too bad when cold but as soon as it warmed up it was even playing up in neutral. Something very weird did happen though. When I closed the boot lid the engine cut out???? Started again fine, tried thumping the rear drivers side quarter and the engine spluttered??? Seemed ok when thumping the passenger side?? Anyway I've arranged with the AA to take it to Gav at Unit 4, you guys seem to speak so highly of him so I thought why not He has also been very helpful on the phone. Just hope he can find out why the car is throwing its teddies out of the pram all of a sudden.
DeanB Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Good luck with it Mark. My guess would be coil packs too - for what it's worth.
