Acehole Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Dropped the bag of nails off with Gav Saturday morning picked up today with Nitrons fitted, again top job and service. Acehole
scatty Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 He will have enjoyed that, a nice change from the HGF conveyor belt....;-)
Numbnutz Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Nitrons you say? 46's? Have you seen my other thread regarding the same? What do you think of them? Initial reaction?
Acehole Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 done a couple of trips in the car, initially to collect, 60mile round trip, and work today. im proberbly not the best one to ask about them as i am only really a tootler about, not a skilled driver at all. first thoughts though anyway, they are as stiff as a honeymooners p****k even though Gav softened them for me, this has dropped the snout of the car by 10mm, doesnt sound much but it has made a whole load of difference going over humps and down the drive, with me in alone its ok, with passenger scrapes on both counts. This is also the first time the car has felt heavy with a passenger in? maybe in my mind though. with the recent new ad07s and nitrons the car does feel loads better and has given me conifidence in it. the car never gave me confidence it could go in a straight line never mind around corners. on another note the car had failed it MOT on the rear shocks (leaking) fair enough, however they didnt spot the front one was about to collapse and fall to pieces? impressive. acehole
Numbnutz Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I'm sure Gav can adjust the ride height quite easily for you if it doesn't suit. Did he just fit them as they came? or did he set the ride height too? If they are lower, it will adjust the camber slightly and that may explain the difference you are feeling. So are they 46's and what spring rates did you go for? As with most things, it may take a day or so to get used to the new items, before you realise the benefits...keep us posted.
Acehole Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 these are what i have had put on, all i could afford to be honest, https://www.eliseparts.com/products/show/56/963/quantum-zero-dampers/ Gav adjusted them from the settings they came with, he said they were far to hard when he took it out for a joy ride. i'm sure they have improved the car, along with the tyres, the head gasket, the 2 off alternators, and the central locking module, all in the last 6 months. guess i will have a sorted car soon. acehole
Numbnutz Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Cool - Did you go for road or track, and linear or progressive springs? (Progressive used to be used a lot in bike forks - and soak up little bumps easily and still provide stiffness under braking)
Numbnutz Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Jeez - imagine if you went for track with fixed rate springs .... even stiffer than a honeymooners p****k
Dr H Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I've said before that my 500/600 46mm Nitrons are great for road use. However I think I'm spoilt with the roads around me. I drove it round the centre of Leeds and outskirts of Sheffield and it was fucking awful. If I had fillings it would have rattled them out!! I lived i Sheffield for 17 years and had forgotten just how shit the roads were.......
Numbnutz Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Show off - if you had fillings - I've more fillings than teeth! I'm in a quandry about choosing my 46 spring rates - this doesn't help Leigh - I've gotta think about my fillings.

Seriously, if I used it more and had to drive through cities a lot I'd go softer.
Numbnutz Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Mother and father had a sweet shop, from when I was 5 to 15 - needless to say - I used to sneak down EVERY night and well .... fillings - I've lots of them. Anyway - I'm itching to order my 46's so, I may pop over sometime real soon for a pax in yours and compare them to damurphster's softer ones and see what compromise I should make between handling and comfort.
DeanB Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Get em quick then you can have your corner weights and geo done at Tolbar on the geo day. It is well worth it. The day should be a good craic too.
