Mutley00 Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Heres a strange one. With the engine fully warmed up and running at the usual 88 degrees, I turn on the heater fan one notch & the engine temp reading jumps instantly to 93, turn it another notch, it jumps to 98. Turn it back one notch it drops instantly to 93 & turn it off again & it returns to 88. The fan runs fine with no strange noises. Any clues? Thanks in advance.
Martin R Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Sounds like a dodgy earth to me. Does turning the lights on cause a similar problem?
dobbo Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Yep anything that affects temp reading when switched on is most likely earth at Stack or component switched on. Lights are therefore a nightmare to trace through. Not worth bothering about imho - you wouldn't notice that change on a normal gauge - it's only because we have a digital read out that we even see it.
Mutley00 Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Cheers chaps. The beast is off to Gav @ Unit 4 next week as its showing the first signs of HGF so I'll see if he has time for a quick shufti. Good to know its nowt to worry about if he hasn't though.
lummo Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Yeah, mine does that too. I just ignore it. Can be a bit worrying when I've got stuck in traffic on a cold, dark winter's evening though, when I've got the lights on & the heater going full blast...
willgriffin1983 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 And I thought only mine did this! Only fluctuates a couple of degrees but nice to know what causes it :-)
