Sunny Weather Time For Mot And Final Window Fixing

Nervous morning yesterday as Elsie has been under wraps since last October. I grabbed the chance to squeeze her MOT in while I had a spare morning. I was so pleased when the engine turned over without so much as a splutter! A quick whizz to the garage via the scenic route to warm her up and give the brakes a little work. Straight through the MOT with no problems and I'm a happy chap.

Back home via the scenic route again and I spent the rest of my day finishing the last job of my rebuild from last year. I never did get the windows fixed properly last year (PITA job if ever there was one) as I rushed getting it done for the geo day at Toll Bar. Well, it was still a PITA job as my knuckles will attest, but I now have windows that go up and down without the need to pull at the top of the glass. After some very careful adjustment, they also seal properly with the roof on- so fingers crossed for when inevitably, I get caught in the rain.

Busy weekend next week, so I'm holding off taxing her until the bank holiday weekend. Fingers and toes crossed for great weather at the start of May.

Paul, give me a shout if I can help at all. My windows weren't dropping, I just hadn't put all the nuts and bolts back in as some of them are evil. (There must be some secret method at Lotus or some special small Norfolk hands.) Still, the satisfaction of them fitting neatly and not rattling all the time is up there along side fitting the PRRT and not getting any leaks. It is that good.

Are they not supposed to have a half inch gap at the top with the roof on then??

Will do. The glass on mine drops at the front so when you put the window back up you end up with a half inch gap, to get it to go up you have to push on the rear edge of the glass. Pain in the arse having to jump out the car every time you want to do the window up.

Well, Last year was a bit of a blowout for me Lotus wise I wanted to do some forum stuff but things conspired against me don't think

i remember a summer with such bad weather. I keep on thinking of getting rid but when the suns out what better car is their! The car was parked up in the garage for October and didn't come out again till a couple of weeks ago.

I did manage to get the Welsh run in on my own on probably the best weather day of last year.

Has your S2 got electric windows?

My tips might not be that relevant seeing as I'm old skool. Once I'd actually re-fitted all the bolts in mine, I had the same problem with the window not going up level. Certainly on an S1, there are three bolts securing the lifting mechanism to the door. Two of these have slotted holes to allow adjustment of the mechanism up and down either side of the central bolt as a pivot point. A little adjustment here made a big difference at the top of travel. That, along with careful adjustment of the stops mounted on the door beam got mine to where they should be. By the end, my adjustments were to finger tight bolts and then a tap up or down with the end of a spanner to improve the fit. Well, at least to the point where I'd had enough!
