chris_h Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I know this one really divides opinion. I'm just about to put new tyres on the car and have been thinking about painting the lettering on the tyres for ages. Quick photoshop before I potentially do it next week..... (p.s this is a really old picture when the car was on standard high suspension, much lower now)
P4N Lotus Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I like to see them like this personally , you need yellow matching watch and rim shades to go it too Chris
kayj_prod Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 It's the tyre equivalent of a T-shirt with the manufacturer's name in massive letters across the chest. Might be OK if it's GAP, less so if it's GEORGE AT ASDA.
DeanB Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Ok only if the tyres are Mickey Thompsons imo. Or General Grabbers.
scatty Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 looks good until it starts wearing off...as said, I hope you've got some top notch rubber. I would hate to be ribbing you for having budget tyres coloured in yellow crayons.... :-) Micky Thompson Ftw!!!!!!!!
chris_h Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 You can't get much better than 888's on an exige. (Just about to put General Grabbers on the wifes Freelander, but i'll put the white lettering on the inside on that !!)
scatty Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Out of interest, what do you paint it on with? Is there a special paint for the job??
L7YSE Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Love it! Just done a bit of reading and came across this: http://www.r6live.com/r6-how-guides/47678-how-paint-tire-lettering-link.html Just be sure to post pics after!!! Dan
chorton_1 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Yes, you can get tyre pens from Demon Tweaks etc for the job.
chris_h Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Ok so I painted them... I decided to only do the outline as I think it looks really nice and a little bit more subtle. I did two coats and its seems pretty robust. (Click on them for big picture) The newly refurbished wheels have come out really good as well.
Stik Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 That looks really good - i might do the same having seen that. How long did it take you?
chris_h Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Took about an hour to do all 4 but I did it with the wheels flat as i'd just got the wheels back from refurb. I reckon it would take a little longer and probably a bit harder to do with them on the car.
