Evening all,
Had a few coolant issues today at a sprint day at curborough as follows :
1) on the second run temp went up to 117 deg and noticed coolant steam coming from the vent at the rear. Inspected and the coolant was a couple of inches from the top of the bottle. Undid the bleed screw and returned back to normal level after a lot of air escaped. Coolant looked clean
2) next drove it up to temp and all seemed fine. Went for a few runs and perfect before lunch
3) after lunch temp would gradually creep up to approx 106 and the fan wouldn't bring it down. Holding the engine and 3k or going for a run cooled it. Rad would vary in hot / cold at the end of each run.
4) temps fine on way home, rising slightly in traffic. Looked at the coolant bottle at home and it's below min. Undoing the cap and the coolant jumps up to max.
Exam question, is this an air lock, hgf or both?
Had a good talk initially with rog and thought hgf. However I would have thought it'd have boiled over again.
Cheers,
Ollie

Hmm, it does not sound promising. I would rebleed the system. Then take it for a good run. Leave overnight and remove the coolant cap in the morning. If it hisses loudly and or water rushes back into the coolant bottle the system is being pressurized. There is a more than a good chance its caused by a blow across the firering. HTH

If your starting to get the Trackday bug I would consider staying with the K series cars. You can fix them a great deal faster and cheaper than if a yota cars go bang. If you do go for an Exige go for one with the front oil coolers or make similar mods asap,
I am afraid I would go with Martin and suggest you have a tiny blow on the fire ring. So you get a tiny amount of gas going into the collant circuit. When its such a small breach the car will run fine but it often shows up under stress.
