Brake Pads

Subject has no doubt been done before but I shall ask anyway.

Front pads are getting low, currently standard lotus jobbies on.

Gav mentioned the lotus pads being fairly pricey, so I was thinking I might as well uprate them?

Use of the car is mainly spirited road use with, a handfull of track days chucked in.

So I dont want a race spec pad but I do want better than standard.

I would defo give CL5+ (Carbone Lorraine) a go. Very good inital bite, good cold/wet performance, V good on track, easy to clean dust off wheels, mine don't squeak (with brake buffers)

Some people have complained about crumbling edges, but I've never had a problem with them, but then I don't wear them right down.

Alex, as per Russ and Numbnutz, but if money's tight Mintex 1144s are better and cheaper than oem.

Cheers for the feed back.

It's not so much as money being tight it's getting value for money. No point in paying more for a poorer pad.

CL's heard these mentioned a few times anymore feed back in these?

CL5+ give very good stopping power both on track and on the road from cold, not much dust either !

If you do choose CL's I recommend you change them before they get low as the last front pads I had fell apart on track ( the backing and pad material parted company )

Also if you park your car outside and or with wet brakes ( after washing your car for example ) and don't use it every day the CL pads stick badly to your disks, far worse than other pads.

I've just had Pagid RS42 fitted. Massive improvement over the Brembo ones that were previously on the car, really like them. Not tracked them yet, will do so this week, twice!

I only had one set of mintex 1144's. They were about half price of the Pagid and CL5+'s ish but I wasn't keen, they were better than OEM and the dust didn't weld to my wheels either, like the oem. But coming off the motorway in the wet was always a nervous affair, as they didn't bite initially and as they dried/warmed, they then got better as I approached the top of the slip road. I thought the CL5+ were much better, and defo worth the extra - but each to their own.

TBH, although I vowed to try the Pagids next, I haven't yet. I'm now going to get some CL6+ for the rear, to increase the rear bias, as I think it needs more bite, and the CL's work better from cold than the pagids - almost to the point that you really don't need to warm them up etc. So for me, they are better for road use / occaisional track use.

I have 1144s, but only because money was tight. If it wasn't I would try CL5s. I know they are more powerful from riding as a passenger in Russ' motor. The 1144s are very dusty too which gets on my tits, and I thought the fronts would last a bit longer (8-9k miles Inc. only 2 trackdays).

The 1144s are good, don't get me wrong, and good value, with good bite and feel, but there is better out there.

I've got the rs42's. I've been very happy with them.... Good from cold and seem to be wearing well...

They don't have the initial bite of the cl's. but my cl's kind of ate themselves and fell apart which wasn't very good.

By far the best choice - only issue is that they are a tad harsh on discs.
