TimSportsTourer Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Silk Red - the best colour, of course! Congratulations. I look forward to the pics. The colour looked good on mine when it was new, apparently (http://www.lotusespritworld.com/ERoadtests/CAR_Apr93.html - I have that very car!), but yours has that all-important 's' on the end. What colour is the inside? Very best wishes for it. I hope it's great. Mine is in for the polish of its life and then Ventureshielding from tomorrow. Should look amazing for the weekend. Could we really make it three Esprits for Chatsworth? I'm still hoping I'll be able to get it together...
Elaine Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 That's brilliant! The interior is 'Sand'. We also have some extreme polishing to do, the car has lived in and around London for it's 17yr life... parked on the street for most of those years you can feel the traffic film & grime on top of the paintwork. I contacted one of it's previous owners (mobile number on old receipt), he said he loved the car and hopes that we enjoy it as much as he did. And he's really glad it's gone to somebody who's had an Esprit before (just like us, he also owned a Turbo Esprit before the S4s) We had Amourfend fitted to our Exige when we ordered it, and have thought about getting the Esprit done when it's tidied up, but we're not sure what the kit looks like on them. Have you got any details of which areas it covers? Sadly, we've already got something on, so can't make it to Chatsworth this time. *boooooo* E.
TimSportsTourer Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Yet another reason to be thankful for not living in London! That does sound like a big job, though. There are so many re-entrant surfaces and slots, that could be many hours of effort. At least you'll get to know the car intimately whilst you do it. I look forward to the pics. 'Sand' will be quite different from the greyish colour I have. I'm guessing, but it will look brighter and perhaps sharper, show it's age more, and reflect more in the windscreen on sunny days. Not sure which I'll like more. Again, I look forward to pics. I too had Armourfend on my Elise, but it seems that times have changed and Ventureshield is where it's at these days (so far as I can make out). And also, so far as I can make out, there is no "kit" for the Esprit. On the other hand, because of its origami styling, most of it isn't too hard to do in a bespoke way. The only challenge is the nose, really. My local man seems to think it should be OK, and the plan is to do: • nose (complete) • front wing roughly as far as the back of the headlights (I think) • headlight pods, headlights, side light/indicator clusters, fog lights • bonnet as far as the back of the headlights seam • door sills • door opening edges where they will hit other cars or walls in car parks • rear edge of boot/engine hatch, where you have to press to close it • wing mirrors • rear of each wheel arch, where road-muck from the wheels will come up to damage the paint • Wind deflector for when the roof is off One change from Armourfend (apparently) is that the new 3M film is self-healing. If a stone scuffs it, you heat it with a heat gun or some hot water, and the scuff heals. Yet to be proven, but that's the claim. The front end of mine was resprayed before I bought it, so now is the time to do the Ventureshield, while there is little or no damage to the paint (yet). Hence my decision. All being well, I'll have some more pics by the weekend, and I'll be able to share them. Pity about Chatsworth. Maybe next year... Tim
Elaine Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 The dash reflecting on the windscreen isn't as bad as it was in the Turbo Esprit (that had a full cream dash), but it's still there. And don't worry, we've taken those horrible mats out of the footwells now. I look forward to seeing your Ventureshield'd Esprit.
