PS. I was thinking of de cantering small amounts of the fuel into my wife's car to use it up. I am assuming that will work as I get the impression the octane level drops off over time. Again, any advice gratefully received

Can anybody tell me if its a big job to drain the fuel from my S1. Its still laid up and I am conscious that its been over a year since I ran the car. I am almost certain that the fuel that's in it will have gone off. If its a simple job can somebody with experience advise.

Best to mix it with good fresh fuel. So take say 10 l out and mix With 10 lts in the wife's car. You can create a vac and the petrol should flow, but I have never done it. You could hire a pump or drop the tank.

tbh i am not sure how much is in there. i had a feeble attempt to start the car when it was round the corner at my rented garage a couple of weeks ago, but can't recall the fuel guage reading before the battery died. the car has been relocated now in my garage extension at home but knowing there is a good chance its not going anywhere soon, i thought i better make the effort to drain the tank as its not going to get any better. :-(

If there's a small amount of fuel in the tank, i'd fill it up with new fuel.
Then run it for a bit, replace fuel filter and refuel.
