Can This Be Fixed?

So MLOC, what do you think? Will a really neat weld do the job, or is it going to be too fiddly? And does anyone know of anywhere in nottingham who might give it a go?

It is the end piece of the parcel shelf from my 3 series touring. Bloody useless design as very easy to drop one side out whilst the other is still connected and hey presto, snap!

BMW have quoted a simply unbelievable £700 for a replacement as i would need to buy a whole new unit!!!!!!! Ebay offers second hand ones for £150-£200, but if i can have a go at getting it fixed rather than having to buy a whole new unit that would be worth a go.

Is the shelf still usable in its current state?

Either leave it or trawl e-bay.

Its certainly usable enough not to spend 700 notes on it! Far from ideal though, but probably more annoying than anything else. So if i could get it fixed for £20-£30 then it would be worth giving it a go.

Trip to the old scrap yard ???

Yeah i thought that, although they seem to show up on ebay for £200 more often than not

Superglue ?

Had ruled it out as not strong enough to be honest, as this is the bit that attaches the shelf to the brackets on the rear seats, so takes the strain when you pull the load cover out. But its probably worth a go before i spend £££ doing anything else.

Could you fabricate a plate to go either in-front or behind, then glue with epoxy resin & a secure with couple of pop rivets.

Bring it along to the Hut tonight if you are coming.

Thanks guys. I have given this stuff a go. We'll see how it holds.
