Chris_edeson Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Wow! Just catching up on stuff recorded... This was on bbc hd about a week ago or so. What a programme for a big hero of mine growing up! Worth a watch on iplayer if you didnt see it. Superb.
fentuz Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I watched the 2 first episodes Moss & Stewart and they were very good. I found this third episode a little disappointing; although he was a great driver, the program gave me the impression he was a bit of "reckless driver", driving flat out whatever is in balance. I may have mis understood but it seems he could have won more if he had played safely after securing serious advance against competitors. That said, the way his dad was through the program was rather emotionnal; it s just a sad story really.
DeanB Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I agree with Fentuz. McRae was a legend, but the programme was poor.
StokieAfro Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Let’s throw in a little controversy and I mean in no way to disrespectful…. The program most definitely had him pinned as reckless. Now being reckless as a race driver is one thing almost a pre-requisite. But as I see it, it was also his recklessness that led to the helicopter crash and his demise, the detah of his 5 year old son, friend and his son. Being a father how is that different to murder…. …. Discuss
stockhome Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I watched all three the first two were brilliant TV, but this one was a little poor.

Discuss Murder requires an intention to kill or cause really serious injury. Perhaps you are thinking of manslaughter? I take your point though. If there was any negligence - and I stress the word "if" - it makes an awful tragedy almost unbearable for the families concerned, I imagine.

DeanB Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I feel even more sorry for the families after reading that.....
scatty Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 A desperately tragic accident. He probably was to blame. I think murder/ manslaughter is harsh. Maybe I just see him through rose tinted racing goggles , I dunno. But he was still a fantastic racing driver. I think this is why the program was never aired over Xmas for this very reason. I've never thought of him as a legend. That's a big word for what he won. He was a maverick type character with oodles and oodles of god given talent. But still one of the reasons I started watching rallying.
StokieAfro Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Never mean't murder simply added to prompt a response but reading the BBC article manslaughter may not be so far off the mark. I guess we'll never really know. Agreed a tragic accident both Colin & Richard Burns were an inspiration.
