My 111R is going in for new clam next week after I was hit from behind - the insurance assessor came out and agreed straight away to authorise the job - he owned a Europa and knows the marque well. I mentioned this to the guys who are going to fix it fo rme and they told me that this assessor really knows his Lotus - sometimes too well !

He inspected another car and spotted a non-standard part (don't know what) that hadn't been declared and they refused to pay out - leaving the owner with a £10k repair bill.

So it is important to declare any mods ! ... wonder if my upgrade windscren wiper Ok .....

& thats why I like my 'unlimited modifications' policy (with a BHP cap) that Matt @ Henderson Taylor got me!

Can do literally anything to the car except increase the power without needing to inform them :)

Yes, Insurance companies are there to make money. I know of one who didn't pay out because the car had none standard tyres fitted, i.e. they were not the same type as originally fitted at manufacture...

As long as the tyres were rated the same or higher as the OE tyre and within legal tread limits I would'nt have thought that was legal?

I'm afraid I don't know any other details as it was years ago, but I remember thinking how extreme it was at the time.

They'll be checking your oil next to wriggle out of paying. I don't agree but you have to draw a line for modifications that should or should not be declared. But if you declare a different wiper, or lightened valve caps or A048 tyres, you could become uninsurable lol - a joke.

Via Reis I have an unlimited mods, unlimited mileage, upto silly power etc, 6 track days, european cover etc all for less than Direct line and the like charge for a bog standard car.

Just hope I never have to use it!
