Harmy2010 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 ...the car does not start!!!! Exige lesson 1:It may only be a 1.8 but it drinks like a good un. Epic Fail tonight, even thought about handing my driving license back. I am not renowned for my mechanical knowledge, but today while i went to visit my cousin in walsall I have given my family some ammunition for the xmas day festivities. Driving from work to Walsall i was cutting it fine with the petrol, had done 82 miles from £20 of v power. i have only done 75 before i put petrol in normally, i figured i would just go the petrol station on the way home. the display said there would be enough. so 9pm rolls around, its cold, i say bye, turn the key, music comes on, turn it to start the car and NOTHING but the heart-sinking sound of the starter motor. The the walk of shame back to his front door to say 'car wont start, i need petrol' long story short( ) we got petrol then push started it to get it going.
jimbo07g41 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Is that about 25mpg? Flipping eck, I can get 45mpg on a steady run.
scatty Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 ha ha. tell me you didnt... you would get on well with my mrs. she has a habit of driving on fumes, and always answers, theres at least another 10 miles from that..... must admit im the opposite, i get cold sweats if it even enters under the 1/4 tank mark....weird i know....

Flipping eck, I can get 45mpg on a steady run. :S i dont really work the MPG out, it just bums me out. although 25mpg on a busy stop start commute is pretty good i think? ha ha. tell me you didnt... you would get on well with my mrs. she has a habit of driving on fumes, and always answers, theres at least another 10 miles from that..... must admit im the opposite, i get cold sweats if it even enters under the 1/4 tank mark....weird i know.... Unfortunately this happened. I always run it low, but i have never ran out, like your mrs, when i parked up i thought 'there legs in this thing yet'. Alas, i was very wrong. It must have been dry as even when i put the 5L from the Jerry can it would not start. Had to push it and drop the clutch to get it going.
IAN G Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I think my mrs runs her qashqai on fumes so that when i want to use it i have to fill it up first ! Have i got some thing wrote on my forehead !!!! Lol
TimSportsTourer Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 My mother used to be a lawyer and was doing some judging once some way from home, so she borrowed Dad's car for the long motorway trip (an hour, perhaps?). Dad's car was one of those Jag XJ-6 things with a monster 4.2l engine in, and so it had two huge fuel tanks. Mum ran out of petrol on the way to court, and pulled onto the hard shoulder. The bobbies who came and asked what the problem was helpfully took Mum to the court, and took the keys to sort out the car. Mum was incandescent that Dad had lent her the car with no petrol in. When, later in the day, the bobbies gave her the keys back to the car, which they had either rescued or had rescued, they pointed out that in fact, the other tank of petrol was full, with 11 gallons or so in it, and all that was needed was to switch the switch. By these standards, Harmy2010, your aberration is minor!
