fentuz Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Hello I was reading a french website about earth issues with aluminium chassis car. Some people mentioned "masse pieuvre" which translates litteraly to "octopus earth" but spider earth may be more representative. Anyway, failing with the translated description, a picture will be much better: Or Basically, it's a bunch of earth cable joint together and mounted on various key point (engine, gearbox, lighting etc...) So, the question would be: would this improve the poor earth on our cars and if so, where would you connect them to? Has it been tried? Cheers
Martin R Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Bill, parallel earth paths will always give a far lower resistance than just using the chassis. By the looks of that pic the negative battery terminal is connected to the big plate and the leads to whaterever you feel needs earthing. Engine, gearbox, earting posts etc. Seems a lot of time and effort to stop your temp guage reading jumping a couple of degrees when you turn your lights on. The OE system should be plenty good enough if kept in decent condition. I expect you would get just as good a result running a big cable between the various earting points.
darryl Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Bill, Keep all earth terminals clean & free from corrosion, if you have a problem with a particular circuit or item if neccessary re-earth that item; I would not waste time/money and add weight when not required. Only my two pence worth but have been in the electrical field since 1976 (god i feel old now)
fentuz Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 That's all fine, I don't have any issue with electric at the moment. I was just wondering if this was any good.
