Elisedreamer Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Hi Folks, Since the cold weather has set in I seem to be getting a serious windscreen fogging problem that even when wiped fogs up again almost immediatley. Any ideas? I have tried off the shelf solutions and homemade white vinegars mixes, but no joy sadley. Cheers Si
fentuz Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 RainX does something for the fog. It works OK on the Caterham http://www.rainx.co.uk/products1.php
dobbo Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 RainX on the outside and FogX on the inside is about the best you can hope for. If you can let the car stand and warm up before driving, you have a better chance, but some say that it better for the engine to get in a drive normally. Obviously this doesn't help with a cold heater problem... The final alternative is a thick coat and roof off :-)
chris_h Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 It's the big advantage of having air con. Clears in seconds (when it's working).
Steve J Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Blowers on full blast to screen but will take some time to clear before being able to drive. Keep car in garage. Fog-x
Steve G Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Do you have girly carpets - are they damp causing the steaming-up?
Wild Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Keep the inside of the screen clean and use a chamois sponge and or micro-fibre cloths with air-con / heater on full. Kitchen roll is quite useful too. Keep the outside of the windscreen clean too, if its colder than the inside, the inside will steam up even more.
Elise+Imp Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 how old is the car?, if the matrix is leaking you'll get more fogging - it'll be noticable by the inside of car smelling of anti-freeze even though you may not be loosing much.
Mutley00 Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Si, Does the screen stay foggy for a long time even after the engine is up to operating temp? If it does as Elise+Imp says, you may have a leaking matrix and the de-mister is actually blowing 'damp air' onto your screen where it condenses & will continue to do so till the screen is warmed sufficiently for the damp air not to condense on it. Keep an eye on your coolant level. Fingers crossed for you.
