Hi All.

I have a bit of an issue at the moment and I am after some advice. Last Friday I collected my elise from the body shop in Bromsgrove after having some scratches on the lower chin and the door crack repaired. I drove it to work on monday and yesterday.

On the way home i stopped on a small car park at a barbers, and then attempted to drive off and didnt spot a small bolard. Crack.

The question is what do I do once repaired- Sell it and cut my losses and buy something like a RS Clio/ Cooper S for weekend with what I get, or stop being a idiot and keep it.

Thanks all!

Don't give in. Keep the Lotus. Trust me! I sold mine after almost writing it off hitting a rabbit at about 45mph. The damage was about £6k, if I remember rightly. I was thinking like you, so I sold it and bought a roadster made of metal instead of glass. And every day since, I've regretted it. Practically, I still hope to get another Elise. I plan to get a splitter for the front clam, which will, I hope, be sacrificial. If I hit anything, the splitter will take the brunt of it (I hope). If it's something big, obviously it will make no difference, but so long as it's glass-fibre and nor carbon fibre, it will absorb enough of the energy before ripping its bolts out of the glass clam that I'll avoid damage on the scale I had then. I'm told this works really well, though I've no real experience, I'm afraid.

I do sympathise, but really, don't make a bad situation worse by selling the car for one that doesn't make your heart flutter every time you walk up to it.

(On the other hand, if you do sell, I want a 111R, so let me know!) (See! That proves you shouldn't sell it, since I sold mine and am that desperate!)

Andy,

obviously you need to keep the Elise, as Tim states "you will regret it"; and yes you need to use a different barber's

Thanks all. I may well keep it.

I think that due to the commuting and all the driving I need more sleep, and the misses thinks that I hit the bolard as I was knackered.

In that case then get the misses to cut your hair; you spend time with her and save some money for when you upgrade in two years to the SC sorted!

I have made my mind up. It is terminal for my lotus life and I am going to get it repaired and sell it. It will be very very hard to do and I will be putting it on here and PH when back.

The traveling to and from london means that I am using the Elise less and less, and when I do I wreck it. I am planning on getting a 335D M sport or a A5 quattro.

I plan to get back in a Lotus once the job situation in the NHS settles and I am working closer to home- maybe a exige S!
