Elise "stack" Dashboard Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

this is driving me mad over the last year. On my s1 elise I have a electrical problem....

After I have turned off the engine and removed the keys the stack dash lights stay on, they also flash brigh/dim, the revs and speedometer also light up along with the the digital screen, the lights come on intermitenly and are causing the battery to go flat.... Other than that the car run's great and everything works as normal (including the Dash) when the car is started....

This was original posted without any soluition:(

Has anyone got a cure for this !!! Help would be much appreciated.

thanks :)

I dont unfortunatly have an S1 wiring diagram any longer. However you obviously still have a feed to the Stack unit with the keys removed ( possible short circuit ) You need a wiring diagram and start at the stack and work back from there. Also S1,s sometimes have a shorting problem with the front relay / fuse box.

IIRC they are attached to the top of one of the front wheel arch liners ( n/s ? ) Remove the fixing pins and turn them over and check for water / corrosion caused by water.

HI,

thanks for the reply, I've got the S1 Wiring diagrams...eeekkk. But I'll have a look later tonight and at the Fulse & relay box. what is the IIRC - is it the RELAY box?

thanks

Hi, thanks for your help so far, That OK about the IIRC's. OK, I've done a bit of work:

removed dash/Stacks -all looks OK. I tried a ddirect earth from inside of the stacks to the Chassis - no luck

Removed all Fuses - all looks OK, the only fuse that stops the problem is to remove the 7.5A "stop lamps & battery services".

Removed all the relays and everything looks excellent - removing the relays didn't stop the problem.

Disconnected ECU - no joy

Disconnected other little black box in the boot beside ECU - no joy....

.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

So I looked at the problem on the STACKs in a little more detail. Only the Oil Pressure & Seatbelt light are comming on when the ignition is turned off/key removed. If you insert the seatbelt this stops that light going on/off, therefore only the Oil Pressure light & alarm light come on. Further investigated this...Car Runs perfectly, When you turn off ignintion and remove keys all dash lights go out after a couple of seconds, after another couple of seconds the ECU has a CLICK (like a circuit/relay is connnecting) [ this click noise comes from the ECU]. Straight after the click the Oil Pressure and Seatbelt light shows and alarm light comes on like normal. If you plug-in and then remove the seatbelt the light goes on/off etc..

I do have a wiring diagram - but lost where to start now.

any help would be much appreciated...

thanks
