Looking For My Old Lotus Elise!

Hi everyone. Hope someone out there can help me. About 6 years ago i used to own a 1999 S1 Lotus Elise. Like an idiot i part exchanged it for my dream car which was a Lamborghini Countach (replica). Although the car looked and sounded amazing it turned out to be a nightmare with epic proportions! We lost a great deal of money. It runs into thousands and i really aint joking! The one thing that bothers me more than the money is the number plate i lost on the Lotus. I should have put it on a retainer but i trusted the guy who i part exed against but he sold it with the plate on before i could sort it out. Sadly i rushed into the deal. I've been trying to locate the car ever since but without any luck. I have even contacted dvla but they cant get involved. The plate was brought for me by my wife for my birthday. We had three similar numbers but sadly two have gone. The Lotus is (or was) a silver S1 with orange wheels and orange graphics which i had done. Yea i know its not everyones cup of tea but we liked it and so did Pete Smith of Hilton Derbyshire who was at the time a Lotus dealer. I dont know if i'm breaking any rules here and if i am i'm sorry and i will understand if they remove the post but the number is S17 FRN. Does anyone know the location of this car? If i could find the car i would like to ask the people who own it if i could buy the number off them because it means a great deal to me. Has anyone seen this car at a meet somewhere or do any of you know the owner? If any of you do see the car could you get them to contact me on this forum please? Many thanks Steve.

Can't say I've ever seen that car about anywhere, sounds like it was a pretty distinctive combination. According to the DVLA website it hasn't been taxed since 2008 so it may be sorned somewhere or could've been written off I guess?

Have you tried any of the cherished number plate dealers to see if they can track it down?

You could put a post on seloc too....if you haven't done already.

Good luck with the search.

Hi guys. Thanks for your replies i really appreciate it. What i dont understand is if you go onto autotrader and at the first page put the reg in as if you were selling the car it all comes up the make the model the year and the colour, how come it does that? I had been told that some had gone abroad but i would have thought that it wouldnt show up on the autotrader database. Cheers guys Steve.

I wouldn't have thought the auto trader database was current. Or not as up to date as DVla or the site I gave. Or they just have past and present numbers and don't remove when the plate is either removed or transferred.

Try asking the question over on seloc???

Indeed it is and still being thrashed in the Elise trophy. Liz goes all misty eyed when she watches it :)
