I have a build thread on seloc but thought you guys would appreciate this

Car is a CAT C 111S 47k miles that i bought with 95% of all the bits needed to get back on the road

It was crashed in France, aquaplained onto a crash barrier taking the fron crash box clean off and damage to both clamshells but no chassis damage ;)

The original plan was to build a 350bhp k series engine, i used to have a 1.4 k in my rover 100 that was 292.8bhp and 250lbft but it was relatively laggy. The 1.8 is a fantatsic engine but once above 350bhp it starts getting issues mainly the liners and also very expensive cost was about £8k to do this properly

Roverdose who built my 1.4 also builds t series and a couple of conversions have been done but these were to std 200bhp ish.

I am not a fan of the honda conversion, although quick, i dont want to be worrying about the driveshafts. And the audi just looks plainly complicated for an idiot like me

So Roverdose mentioned the T series, a little bit of digging and i found a forged engine (std crank is good for 500bhp) for good money that was running 350bhp. Took it for a spin in a 620TI and money swapped hands !

Performance_graph.jpg

The engine had a huge GT3076 and custom exhaust that i sold with the DTA E48 ecu for half the cost

Elise then had the 160vvc engine removed with the G6 box and engine loom and sold for the same price as the rest of the forged T series :)

The i called Grant at ww.GB-ent.co.uk who is a T series guru and procurer of all custom bits you could require. Gizzmo boost controller, davis craig electric pump, re-circ dump valve, wide band controller. T series flange

IMAG0111%5B1%5D.jpg

I also had a custom manifold made for the k series turbo i was building, this can be tweeked to suit the T series and will be good for 500bhp ;)

T series engine is now sat in the engine bay, the gearbox is the same PG1 but is an uprated turbo version with a type B torsen ATB C6 ratio

20120801_160114%5B1%5D.jpg

Sits a little close to the original engine mount but should be able to do a mount to suit

20120801_165143%5B1%5D.jpg

Plenty of room for a nice turbo !

20120801_165152%5B1%5D.jpg

Speaking of nice turbo i purchased this again from GB Enterprises a GTX2867, chosen as it should spool the same, marginally slower, than a GT2860RS but will blow enough air for over 450bhp ie same as a 76mm turbo. It is also a lot more efficient so will provide cooler air ;)

GTX2867R_816366-1_comp.jpg

Purchased a DTA S80, few reasons why, it has traction control / launch control that works, has a decent boost control rpm and boost related, and its easy to build into a multiscreen dash if required.

And thats as far as i have got, should be done by end of september for the same price including the car as the audi 350bhp conversion

Wow!

Looks quite a project going on there!!! :)

Got a GTX2867R (.64) about to be put in mine & expecting very similar results, be good to meet up when both are done to compaire builds :)

Keep us informed to how it progresses!

As your thread said and the z20let boys have proved the gtx 2867 are pushing 450bhp

The t series head is not the best so will restrict flow and like yourself I am after driveability not out and out bhp figures.

Just want to stick with an Audi exige then explain my whole car cost less than his conversion

You have to have a goal in life ;-)

Nev over on 220.org is running with a GTX3071R and it's de-tuned at the moment to 485bhp, tho he's thinking about entering 'TOTB' (Ten Of The Best) next year and will have the boost turned up to 600bhp for that competition!!!

Though he has when I've been chatting to him said the 2867 is a much better 'road' choice! :)

Nev's build log is a very interesting read, though will take you a few evenings! Fantastically informative though!

..and also that it has an old British engine in.

Love the build and the labrador turbo.

Are you getting it back on the road as original plate or are you going towards the Q plate route?

Q plates are no longer requried, it will have the std uk plate although its on Northern Ireland plate at the moment........but for some reason i just want the 05

The GTX3071 and GTX3076 are great looking turbos, i am also on the list for an EFR turbo which looks to be better again. However the GTX will suit me fine. 260 - 280bhp on 12 psi and close to 400 at 2bar should all be controllable from the DTA as well ;)

Engine mount was made today, used the existing 620 turbo mount and modded to suit the std elise one

Will see how this gets on as the std mount is not known for its torque holding capability but the vibratechnics ones are :)

Thanks for comments so far

As a matter of interest did you weigh the T series before you dropped it in?

- I'd be very interested in getting a weight, maybe for the engine alone, and then including box, starter and alternator.

No I didn't weigh the engine I am afraid. But general weight is fully dressed160kg but I have removed about 10 kg weight, with flywheel and removing the mechanical water pump and pas.

Gearbox is a couple of kg extra std box is 35

Alternator is a heavy item so may fit a small starlet type one

Basically it weighs the same as the Honda and box and a little less than the Audi.

The Honda and box + starter + alternator weigh a lot more that 160Kg!

I am amazed at that for a cast iron block.

FYI a stock late [light flywheel] K20A2 engine weighs 122.5kg

a stock [heavy flywheel] K series engine weighs 84.5kg

a K with one of my light flywheels[ ie equivalent to above K20 spec] weighs 79.7kg thats 43kg lighter than Honda!

a proper dry sumped KingK engine weighs 74.5kg - 48kg lighter than Honda!

The Honda is stupidly heavy, but really surprised if the T series does not weigh more, the Audi is a joke, totally ridiculous in any car!
