Martin R Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I have a load of 10mm flange nuts if you need any
olliecast Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 Are you going tomorrow night martin? Cheers, Ollie
Martin R Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 PM me your address and i will pop a few in the post
olliecast Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Alternator changed today and ensured Heatshield and air duct is route efficiently. The old one was rattling which I thought was the vvc mech but appears it was the alternator bearing! Also fitted a s2 vvc engine cover to keep the water out and finish the job. Love the red! Did some data logging with a Bluetooth obii on my phone and noticed the stack temp sensor shows around 73 deg c and the ecu temp sensor shows a stable 88 to 90 degrees. Any feedback welcome, Cheers ollie
Martin R Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 On an S1, you have a Blue and Brown sender. One does the stack and one does the ECU. Unfortunatley i cant remember which way around it is. Change the stack one but first check the connections in the end of the coolant sensor plug for corrosion. Edit, i have just realised you have changed the engine. Is it an EU2 or EU3 ?
olliecast Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Hi martin, thanks for the responce, it's a mems 3 ecu. Does it really matter if they are reading different as the ecu appears to ne receiving the correct temp via the obd data logging and this will control the fan? Would be nice to have a stack that matches the ecu reading though. Cheers, Ollie
Martin R Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 What colour are the 2 sensors on the head outlet pipe ? Disconnect one at a time and see what happens to the stack reading ?
olliecast Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Will thanks. There on with only a single wire and one with two wires. Will investigate and feedback. I'll get the new multimeter out and do some investigating!! Cheers, Ollie
jimbo07g41 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Nice work Ollie, like the cover. Martin he is runnung eu3 with a custom loom.
Martin R Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Jamie, on the EU 3, i thought only the black sensor did anything ?
jimbo07g41 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Yep that correct, the blue one just plugs the hole. Ollie the black sensor on the eu3 would run the Stack and ECU. This is important because the ECU also controls the rad fan. You need to check one is operating the fan by disconnecting one at a time and the fan should come on. Then get it up to temp and check it operates the fan. if that all works i wouldnt worry.
olliecast Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Hmm thats interesting. is the wire running to it just an earth then?
olliecast Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 some more work done today... was getting a knocking from the front and found by tugging on the roll bar it was knocking quite bad. replaced the drop links and the roll bar bushes. The bolts holding the roll bar bushes on were really tight! along with stubborn under tray bolts that were a right pain to remove! interesting found load of crap in the front under tray along with about 5 cigarette ends! anyway, found a little improvised tool very handy! and confirmation the old bushes were knackered: feels alot better to drive now, front end feel less "wishy washy" if that makes sense... to the fan question above, disconnected the black plug and the fans do indeed come on so thats a positive, got to say, i can never remember it getting hot enough for them ever to come on though. is it just a matter of taking it for a drive then letting it idle until the temp gets hot enough? Cheers, ollie
Martin R Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Let it idle will eventually bring the fans on.
olliecast Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Cheers martin and thanks for the offer with the exhaust nuts but I manages to find some in the garage
