dobbo Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yes, I know Microsoft no longer support IE6 and it's a very old browser, but it's what I'm stuck with at work. Pages don't scale (menus are off to the left and right of each page, even though I'm on 1280 x 1024). GIFs don't seem to render properly (is that the right way to describe it ?). When there are options in a line (eg Change Theme / Mark Community / Help) these are overlapping. The options in the Mark Community Read don't auto size to the width of the sub-menu that appears) and whe I just clicked on it, I only saw the bottom 3 options as the rest would have been on top of the box I'm currently typing in. The scroll bar of the box I'm typing in is about 2 pixels wide - I almost missed it when I tried to go back to the top of my text. None of this is major and I know that IE6 users are probably now in a minority, but there are still some of us around.
Mark H Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yep its no longer supported, hence you will be redirected to the mobile "light" skin if you visit with IE6 or earlier. The effort to support an insecure and outdated (ten years) browser vs the amount of work that would have to be put in for a few users (1.4%) that are still using it just isn't worth the effort, the browser just doesnt support the features that a modern forum software requires. Corporate IT departments need to get up to speed, there is no excuse for running IE6 only, even if they need to support legacy business applications there is nothing to stop them rolling out something like Mozilla Firefox alongside it.
dobbo Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Fair enough - thought that might be the case. Maybe Rolls-Royce ought to take heed... but they won't.
Steve J Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 It's to discourage you from surfing rather than working Im on IE6 too.
dobbo Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Nah, they do that by blocking anything useful for work yet still allowing MLOC. SELOC is blocked, though, as it LoT. Can do online banking though.
AL. Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Why the fuck are they still using IE6? Can't you upgrade it yourself?
dobbo Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Why the fuck are they still using IE6? Can't you upgrade it yourself? Ha ha !!! We're so locked down I can't even right-click on a programme on the taskbar to Restore or Close it. Almost all Windows keyboard shortcuts are disabled, can't change desktop, screensaver, show hidden files in Exporer, install a printer, etc, etc Can't even plug in a USB charger that doesn't even have the data connections in the plug (eg bike light battery charger) as only USB devices with internal certification work. No certification - USB port doesn't operate.
