MikePMC
OK, not 100% Lotus related as I am without one at the moment due to racing again this season (as some of you know), but it is K Series related and relevant to you Emerald owners! So, I first wanted mention that a trip to Norwich to see Dave Walker is no longer necessary if you want to have your Emerald mapped, and second, to thank Neil and the lads at Monster Motorsport whom had my Metro GTi for a morning to program the Emerald. In a completley standard 1400 K-Series engine, other than an air filter and exhaust, they managed to take the power from 103bhp to 115bhp. They knew what they were doing (which is evident now, with the power made) and the setup there is really good. I cannot recommend them enough. If you have an Emerald that needs mapping, at least give them a call. The car performed fantastic in the first and second race at Brands Hatch a few weekends ago and I surpassed my target of 5th or better by winning both races each with fastest lap. We found out a few days later that we also broke the lap record in the Metro Cup for Brands Hatch which has stood since 2003. Thanks Monster!! Anyone interested, there is some video footage on youtube. My car is the blue one, not the one from which the video is taken. Mike
Fiona
Nice one, Mike! Wondered what you were up to these days. Can't view the video at work but will have a gander when I get home.
Carlos
You kill him into the hairpin every lap. Pity he has a little bit more grunt than yours. Nice racing though!
Phil S1
Great result Mike, still not forgotten the passenger ride you gave me round Donington in the 111R
Dr H
Nice one. I'm sure the power helped but you must be a good driver to get results like that. Thanks for the heads up on the Emerald. My 340R was mapped about 2.5 years ago and I've been thinking of sticking a sport CAT on it so it would need a re-map. I'll ask them tomorrow when it goes in for a service. BTW awesome drift round the first bend
PeterField
Watcha Mike, long time no see. Glad to read all is well and you've still got the metro. Great result at Brands, well done!!! Post the race calendar up when you get chance, and i'll try and come along to watch sometime.
Steve J
Thanks for the heads up on the Emerald. Leigh, You have the amazing ability to find any excuse to spend money on your cars Looks like you're having fun peddling the "Elise in drag" round Brands Mike. Dr H
Excuse???? I figure the 2-3hp I'll loose is worth not having to piss around with a CAT come MOT time will be at Monster at 4pm today......
Monster Motorsport
Mike - awesome drive that! Congrats on the wins and track record Thanks for coming down to our dyno -the map was mostly there, just few tweaks on fueling and ignition. All credit to you and the car, we just added a tiny bit of polish! I think the MG ranks as possibly the loudest car we've had on the dyno - so much so that the det cans were at max volume when mapping! Dr H - thanks for coming down today - awesome beast that 340r - I best start saving the pennies cheers Neil Monster Motorsport.com
Dr H
Neil Thanks for fitting the car in at short notice and allowing me to hang around and ramble on whilst the guys serviced it. Never really thought of it as a 'beast' always seems too small to be a beast Will be recommending you to others. Cheers
MikePMC
Fiona - That avatar picture has just pointed out how long I have been away. Don't they grow fast!!! You and Steve must be very proud!!! Carlos - Ha Ha, No comment! Phil - If you thought the Elise was bad, I'll take you for a spin in the Metro. No spped on the straights in comparison, but hardly braking at the corners will really scare you! Peter - Good to see you are still here. I'd love you to come along, as I would anyone else here. Let me know if you intend to come and I'll sort some free tickets out for you. I'll post the calendar below. Steve - Elise in Drag? Now if I am not mistaken, the Elise uses the Metro engine (with some bore and stroke mods) and also the wing mirrors!! By your assumption, that makes the Elise a butch lesbian Metro??!!?? I do miss having a Lotus though!!! It would be great to have you come along to a race too! Oh, and the little one has grown just a little!!!! Unbelievable!!! Leigh - Glad that you are using Monster for the work on your car. I am pleased with the 115 bhp figure, but comparing the power graph to one we did a few weeks earlier there, the biggest gains are between 2500 and 5500rpm giving a really good spread of power in the gears. It's great having a headline power figure, but if there is nothing until you get to that very peaky rev range, then it means very little. Neil - Thanks again. In the words of a Californian Govenor, "I'll Be Back!". Thanks to all for your interest, I'll keep you up to date with results. If anyonme is interested in attending some real grass roots close and competitive racing, I have posted the calendar below. PeterField
Thanks for posting the calendar up Mike. We'll try and make at least one of the rounds, hopefully Castle Combe as watching you hurtle through Quarry has gotta be fun! Thanks for the offer of some tickets too, will be in touch if we can make it.
MikePMC
Hi Martin, nice to hear from you. Yes, still throwing it around. Just throwing it around a little harder these days! Hi Graeme, I will never forget any of those trips to Wales! The midnight run seems to stick in my mind the most! Are you still without a Lotus?? Peter, would be great to have you along, but they cancelled the Castle Combe meeting yesterday. It's been replaced with a date at Rockingham. I have posted the amended calendar below.
