Tagliani Successfully Completes Test At Texas Motor Speedway

After a day of waiting on Monday for track weepers to dry at Texas Motor Speedway, Alex Tagliani and the Lotus test team were ready to hit the 1.5-mile oval on Tuesday.
The test marked the second chance in as many months for the Canadian driver to continue learning the new features of the Lotus-powered Dallara DW12. With only three install laps completed on day one, the second outing brought better results as the Lotus test team, comprised of members from Team Barracuda – BHA, Lotus HVM Racing and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, completed 132 incident-free laps.
“Overall, I think it was a good day,” said Tagliani. “For our first time on an oval in the new car, we learned some amazing things. Of course, we still have some work to do and we didn’t have as much speed as we would have liked, but every time I came into the pits with a change, the guys were able to make it happen.
“I am so thankful and proud to be working with this amazing group of guys. Plus, this is the track where Todd [Malloy] and I had a great event last season, so we kind of started today where we left off.”
Tagliani also noted that the Lotus group was helpful and positive. He added, “They were receptive to the things we need to improve. It’s great to work with people like that.”
Now, it’s onto the next test with an exciting twist. The official unveiling of the Team Barracuda – BHA car is scheduled for next Tuesday, February 28, during the team’s test at Barber Motorsports Park. Media is encouraged to attend. After that, Tagliani and his crew head to the IZOD IndyCar Series open test in Sebring, FL.
On March 25, the season kicks off on the streets of St. Petersburg, FL, where Tagliani has his sights set on Victory Lane. Fans can watch all the action live on ABC.

Lotus Hvm Racing 2012 Season Launch

Lotus HVM Racing hit the streets of Baltimore on 16 February for the unveiling of the 2012 #78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy Lotus-powered DW12 IndyCar. The new car boasts a 2.2 litre, twin-turbo V6 Lotus engine and brings with it the new sound of IZOD IndyCar Series racing.

HVM Racing's partner, InterContinental Harbor Court Baltimore, played host for the announcement and unveiling, while HVM Racing's pilot Simona De Silvestro and her crew lit up Light Street, directly in front of the InterContinental, with a pit stop demonstration. Euromotorcars Lotus of Bethesda had several Lotus cars on display in the courtyard of the hotel.

HVM Racing partners with Lotus Racing for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series and will compete under the name Lotus HVM Racing. Lotus engines will power multiple teams in the IZOD IndyCar Series and are being built with the assistance of John Judd's Engine Developments Ltd. firm. Lotus Racing operates the motorsports activities of Lotus and returns the Lotus name to a great number of series in addition to the IZOD IndyCar Series, including a return to Formula 1 with Lotus GP.

Entergy Nuclear and the Nuclear Clean Air Energy sponsorship begin their second season with Lotus HVM Racing. Entergy is the second largest producer of nuclear electricity in the U.S. and sponsor for the Nuclear Clean Air Energy national education initiative. The goal of the initiative is to broaden awareness of the benefits of safe, clean, affordable and reliable nuclear energy. The #78 Nuclear Clean Air Energy IndyCar brings national and global visibility to the initiative. Lotus Shakedown & Testing A Success

Lotus HVM Racing, the Lotus test team and Swiss driver Simona De Silvestro completed a successful shakedown of the new 2012 Lotus-powered Dallara DW12 on Thursday, before beginning more in-depth testing of the 2.2 liter, twin-turbo V6 engine on Friday at Palm Beach International Raceway in West Palm Beach, FL.
After two full days of testing over the weekend and turning 300+ incident free miles in West Palm Beach, the Lotus team packed up and moved to Sebring for additional testing on Monday and Tuesday. 870 miles were run over the combined sessions.
Driver Simona De Silvestro was extremely happy with her time in the new car. "I think it was really a good four days," she said. "We ran a lot of miles. We did a lot of laps. I've never spent so much time in a race car. We started tweaking on the race car just to see what it liked. It was a really positive test and to be part of the first laps on the Lotus engine... I learned so many things right there. These guys have been really open and showed me everything and we worked really well together which was really cool. I can't wait to get back in the car again."
De Silvestro isn't the only HVM Racing member that was happy with the results of the testing. "We're very satisfied with the way everything went," said team manager Vince Kremer. "I feel like we made good solid strides. Simona put some solid laps in and the engine ran flawlessly. We exceeded what our original parameters were and we're looking forward to the next test in a few days. I can't emphasize enough how well the collaboration with the three teams and the engine supplier went."
Lotus IndyCar Manager Olivier Picquenot was equally pleased with the initial testing. "This was the most successful test I have ever participated in," he said. "We achieved more than I expected. The quality of the engine is perfect. We're very pleased from a technical aspect on behalf of Lotus and Judd. I would like to thank Simona for her fantastic job during the 4 days. She was smiling all the time and was very good at giving feedback to the engineers to progress in our development. Hopefully the rest of the tests will be as successful."
As the first driver of the three team collaborative group (HVM Racing, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport) working with Lotus to develop the new engine, Simona will have her next opportunity to drive the car again in February. Lotus test drivers Alex Tagliani and Oriol Servia will share driving responsibilities with Simona in the scheduled tests in February and March. Simona will be present to join her engineers and team members at the upcoming tests in Homestead and again in Sebring.

Intense engine testing continues as the IZOD IndyCar Series prepares for an incredible new season. Team Barracuda – BHA driver Alex Tagliani took to the road course of Homestead Miami-Speedway on Monday and Tuesday for the second in a series of engine tests for the brand new, Lotus-powered Dallara DW12.
The Lotus test team, comprised of crew members from Bryan Herta Autosport, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and HVM Racing, completed two successful days of testing further engine developments as well as setup work. As the second day concluded, Tagliani expressed positive thoughts about his first experience with the new engine and chassis.
“Overall, it was a good test,” said the Canadian driver. “It was nice to be back in the car and I really enjoyed working with everyone from Lotus and all three of the teams. It’s a very motivated group with high expectations.
“We picked up a lot of the info that will be helpful in the upcoming tests. Oriol [Servia] should be able to continue where we left off. The car is nice to drive and has a lot of potential. It’s also great to know that there are more updates and upgrades for the engine and chassis.”
Tagliani had an extra element of confidence during this test, as he was reunited with Todd Malloy, his former engineer for the pole position and 4th place finish last season at Texas Motor Speedway. Tagliani noted, “It was especially fun to be back on track with Todd on my radio.”
Team owner, Bryan Herta was satisfied with the results as well, adding, “Great to see and hear the Lotus engine for myself here in Homestead. It is easy to get excited as the season approaches and preparations continue to intensify. Alex gave us great feedback on the car and engine.”
Last week, HVM Racing driver Simona De Silvestro was the first to test the Lotus engine. Simona clocked up valuable mileage at both the West Palm Beach and Sebring circuits, leaving the Lotus teams pleased with the extended running completed in the engine’s maiden outings.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing driver Oriol Servia will get behind the wheel next, as the Lotus test team heads to Sebring, FL. The test will take place on January 30 and 31. Additional tests are planned for February and March, leading up to the IZOD IndyCar Series opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, FL. The race, broadcast live on ABC, will take place on March 25, 2012.
The first of the Lotus production engines are expected to be delivered in a little over two weeks time. Plans call for the Barracuda Networks car to begin team testing shortly thereafter.

Lotus Hits The Track Running

A Chevrolet engine development session in late October at Sebring International Raceway made an impression on Ryan Hunter-Reay.
“There’s not many times in your career when you have the opportunity to drive the car, come back into pit lane and there’s 30 engineers listening to your every word,” he said. “It was a unique experience and I really enjoyed it. It’s an honor and a privilege to test with Chevrolet and Ilmor and working with the Chevy program.”
The Andretti Autosport driver returns to the Chevrolet car to kick off 2012 on-track development Jan. 13-14 at Palm Beach International Raceway.
“I’m ready to get on with the team testing side of it,” added Hunter-Reay, who enters his third season with Andretti Autosport. “It’s an exciting time in INDYCAR to be able to develop these cars and engines, and now the manufacturer competition that we have really makes it than much more interesting and competitive.”
Lotus made its on-track debut Jan. 12 with six installation laps at Palm Beach International with Simona de Silvestro behind the wheel.
"Shakedown went according to plan," she said. "Good to be back in the car."
De Silvestro, who is entering her third season with HVM Racing, will continue to pile on laps Jan. 13-14 at Palm Beach before moving to Sebring International on Jan. 16-17. Hunter-Reay will hand off the Chevy car to teammate Marco Andretti for the Sebring days.
“I can’t wait to get back into the car,” Andretti said. “It feels like forever since I’ve driven. I’m looking forward to tuning on the new car and making big gains with a lot of different changes.”
Also scheduled to hit the track Jan. 16 are Helio Castroneves and Will Power of Team Penske, JR Hildebrand of Panther Racing, Simon Pagenaud of Sam Schmidt Motorsports, Tony Kanaan of KV Racing Technology, and Scott Dixon of Target Chip Ganassi Racing. Graham Rahal of Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing will take over the steering wheel from Dixon on Jan. 17, while the other drivers will get a second day on the short course.
“To get that experience to be truly working with a manufacturer in Chevrolet is exciting,” said Hildebrand, the 2011 Indianapolis 500 runner-up. “It will be good to just get back in the car and get to work. We’re anxiously waiting to see what the next steps will be with the car, but at the same just excited to get back on the track.”
The IZOD IndyCar Series-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is March 25.

De Silvestro Ready To Hit The Test Track

Simona de Silvestro climbs in the 2012 Dallara Automobili chassis and exclaims, “I could sleep in here it’s so big.” A few feet away at the HVM Racing shop, “Pork Chop” rests on stands, destined to be a show car in 2012.
The Swiss driver, who completed her second IZOD IndyCar Series season with HVM Racing in 2011, affectionately dubbed the chassis “Pork Chop” during an exasperating season. With prospects for a brighter 2012, will she name the next-generation car?
“Last year was the first time I named them and it was not the greatest year I’ve had, so I’ll have to think about it,” said de Silvestro, who missed two races – one because of injury and another because of issues while re-entering the U.S. – and had one top-five finish. “If we go to St. Pete and have a really good race, maybe a good name will come out of it.”
Watching the multitude of unpainted components being unpacked snapped de Silvestro into a competitive mind-set. HVM, which will house the Lotus engine program at its Indianapolis shop, is scheduled to commence the on-track engine development program Jan. 13-14 at Palm Beach International Raceway with de Silvestro behind the wheel in the Lotus-owned chassis. The team will join Chevrolet- and Honda-aligned teams Jan. 16 in ther resumption of manufacturer testing at Sebring International.
“Now that the car is here, we can’t wait to go out to the track and try it out,” she said. “I’m pretty excited to be with Lotus and the team that has chosen me to start doing the development on the new engine and with the new car.
“I’m really lucky to be back with HVM and Nuclear Clean Air Energy and Entergy, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a better year in 2012 than we had this year. We just have to work really hard.”
HVM Racing manager Vince Kremer said he expects to pick up the Lotus car before the end of the year, and the team’s No. 78 car likely will make its track debut in February. The IZOD IndyCar Series opener is March 25 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.
“(The testing schedule) is quite ambitious, and that’s just the on-track,” he said. “We haven’t talked about any off-track testing, seven-post shaker rig testing or twisting the chassis. The good thing is we’re working as a co-operative group with Dreyer & Reinbold and Bryan Herta (Autosport) and we seem to be working quite well together.
“Palm Beach will be more of an engine shakedown test. We’re not really concerned about how many miles we run. Sebring will be getting more into developing the engine on the track.”
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport drivers will share in the preseason on-track testing, which will include Auto Club Speedway in California, much like the Chevrolet and Honda programs.
As Lotus partner teams, Dreyer & Reinbold and the Herta group will carry black and gold liveries announced recently by Group Lotus. Because of its commercial partnership with Nuclear Clean Energy and Entergy, the green and white HVM Racing car will look much the same as it did in 2011, according to Kremer.
"We may go to a little darker green and have a yellow stripe," he said. Lotus has been very good about working it out with us. The recognition will still be there."

Lotus Sets Date For First Indycar Engine Run

Lotus has confirmed a date for the first track test of the engine that it will take into IndyCar in 2012.
The works-aligned HVM Racing squad, whose workshop also serves as Lotus's IndyCar base, is scheduled to give the Lotus power plant its first run at Palm Beach International Raceway on January 13-14 with Simona de Silvestro behind the wheel.
The team will then join Chevrolet and Honda-powered squads when they resume their manufacturer testing at Sebring on January 16. Both of the latter manufacturers have already track-tested their engine on several occasions over the past two months.
HVM manager Vince Kremer told Indycar.com that his one-car team is working with other Lotus squads Dreyer & Reinbold and Bryan Herta Autosport in an effort to make up the ground lost by the lack of track time prior to Christmas.

Kremer also said that the HVM car would carry some sort of Lotus theme in its livery, despite being the only Lotus-aligned team not to run a black and gold colour scheme in 2012 due to an existing deal with sponsor Nuclear Clean Energy.
