S2 Short Roof

Can anyone help me, sorry, a friend of mine. He has an Exige and wants the option of fitting a soft top for if and when the sun comes out.

I, sorry, he has bought a S2 short soft top on Ebay and has received an Email from the seller, telling me, sorry him, that they have just noticed the damage that can be seen in the picture below.

Not haven taken the roof of his Exige yet and having not seen a soft top up close, does the damage look cosmetic or is it detrimental to the use of the hood - should I, sorry, he, walk away?

Absolutly no need for a soft top with an Exige !!

(sorry can't answer your question properly though)

Harvey .... I've done the conversion on mine so have taken a look at my soft top. The black plastic cap looks to be an integral part of the mechanism and would be very difficult to replace as it is bonded to the hood. It may be possible to repair the crack/split shown but there is a fair degree of pressure put on this part when you 'stretch' the hood into place so unless a good repair is effected it may well open up again and I assume the crack/split will spread. Really depends upon how much your mate paid for the roof I suppose. I was lucky I think, the first I bought was for my car - good condition for £240 and the second one (for a mate) - new/excellent condition was £200! Both off ebay with bids accepted before auction end.

In my opinion Harvey, that looks like a badly damaged roof. The whole side seems to be broken and that will and looks like is has already, effect the integrety of the horizontal support. If I were you I'd walk away from that one.

Looks like it could have been damaged in an accident maybe, when the roof was on and got compressed between the screen and rear roof? My 2 pence.

Hi Harvey.

I think the roof you, I beg your pardon, your "friend" is interested in there, looks quite tatty. Not just the crack but also the rest you can see looks like it has been battered about a bit.

I would suggest you, sorry there I go again, your friend :o looks for another.

I hope you both enjoy each others company :)

Agree with everyone on this one. There is a lot of pressure on the fixings when you fit the roof. If I was your mate :) I'd look for another one.

Thanks again for all the advice guys - I have asked for a refund

Hines @ £400+, I'll keep looking, but thanks for the heads up.

Will have to wait till tomorrow evening for an air in the hair experience - any guesses?
