S1 Steve Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Have been told that whilst driving last night with my lights on that the passenger side headlamp was dim and the same side driving lamp was on,did not have driving lights on. Could this be an earthing problem? and if it is how do I rectify it please.
dobbo Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 deffo an earth problem, probably on the headlight that's dim. Could be as simple as a rusty bulb base, or it could be anywhere in the earth cables from that area. I've never really understood how the driving light comes on - it's a bit like the faulty indicators / brake lights you see when the brake light and indicator flash alternately when the indicator is on. I guess it's because the main beam and driving light are on together, and the dipped and main share an earth, so a faulty earth for dipped beam can go through to the main beam and on to the driving light to complete the full route to earth.
Matt C Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Steve, I with Dobbo.... def earthing. Start basic, pull the connectors off the back of the headlights, and spray with WD40 and try that. (WD40 fixed my airbag light in the Rover! very pleased with myself on that one!) It will be light corrosion causing a bad connection... if its not the connector at the headlamps, I'm not sure where the next connector plug is... under the bonnet? Once I had my lights make up a very wierd combo on the S1 Exige, but turning them off and on again fixed it, and it never happened again.
