All, Newbie advice I'm afraid. I haven't had my Elise S2 Racetech for that long so can't remember if this is 'normal'. I think not... My gearstick doesn't 'spring into position' when it's flicked into neutral. If I push it over between 1st and 2nd, that's where it stays, when I'd expect it to spring back to between 3rd & 4th, i.e. the 'middle' of the gearbox. Can someone confirm this is bad. Assuming so, is it an easy fix for a complete luddite? Cheers Rich

Hey everyone I know this post is similar to my one yesterday about lumpy running but I've sorted that now (spark plug had backed off) so I'm assuming the ticking is unrelated hence the slightly new post! Basically my engine is making a ticking noise which is more noticable at tickover. It does increase with the engine revs and sounds like a tappet. I've done a bit of searching in various forums and this seems fairly common. I don't use the car much during the winter just start it up about once a week. Yesterday is the first time it has been out in about a month but it wasnt a long run only about 15 mins. The thing is I think i'm more paranoid about it because…

talkin to a mechanic today he was saying that if a headgaskets goes there is a stronger chance it could go again and keep going, this the same with the elise or if repaired right should it be ok? curious as to wether the headgasket has gone and been repaired already is a goodthing or bad thing?

Engine Tickover 1 2

Just took the elise out for a spin and had to bring it back because it sounds like a bag of nails. Its as if the engine isnt ticking over high enough. I'm getting loads of vibration through the car at standstill at tickover. Had a look at the throttle cable and it seems very slack but don't know if thats affecting it. What should it tick over at when it is warm does anybody know? its about 800/900 rpm at the mo. Also I have a clicking noise coming from somewhere i can't locate. It sound like the old ford crossflow when the tappets were out! Clicks about 4 times a second at tickover and increases with the engine revs? Any ideas? cheers Phil Just had …

K Series Hgf

My sister had said her car was making a strange noise and when my Dad had a look at the car the header tank was empty. When the header was topped up the water turned brown. Does this sound like it could be oil in the water and HGF. Its not on a Lotus, its a Rover 200. What else could potentially be effected if it is HGF?

Hi All Ive had the elise (1996 S1) all of 6 days and have come accross my first "hurdle". Its been fine until today when shes started missing (from what I can tell), I think its probably weather realted - its p*ssed down all night). She starts (just) but there's no acceleration unless I'm REALLY gentle on the throttle. If I go anywhere past 1/4 throttle the power cuts out and it sounds like its missing. Any ideas what to check first? Is it advisable to get some WD40 on the spark plugs? Do I need any special tools? Thanks, Im really worried about this! Jeff

I need to get my s1 elise serviced (A1) and also get the front off side wheel bearing replaced asap. Can any one suggest and good place (pref not a dealership) where I can take this. If any one could provide me with contact details in and around the midlands or as close to Stoke on Trent as possible that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Gary

Can anyone tell me what the standard water temperature is while running an S1 Elise? My car seems to run from 89-92 C is that the norm? And can some1 tell me why when you have the heaters on the water temp rises 3 degrees C and drop when it is off. I'm confused as i thought it should be the other way around as was all my other cars

Now maybe it's just me but I am sure that originally the S2 had L-O-T-U-S written along the length of the rear in silver lettering and then in around 2003 the badging (and side decals I think) were changed and the rear had just a simple Lotus emblem badge on the rear in the centre. Now, I see pictures of the updated 2006 Elise and they have seemingly gone back to L-O-T-U-S letters along the length of the Rear Am I correct or is my head up in the clouds while I wait impatiently to collect my new wheels on Saturday?!

OK folks, good news and bad ! Good - the files are ASCII and I can pull them into Excel. Bad - First two columns are revs and BHP (wheels). Columns 3 and 4 do not seem to relate to BHP (fly) or torque... Column 5 is just full of zeros. Tried the formula for converting torque - power, which gives the right shape for my torque curve, but too low - obviously need to use BHP (fly), but cannot find a way to get this from the data in columns 3 and 4.

Afternoon all... After breaking down again in heavy traffic today (Snow this time, not the usual rain) I think it's time I did something about water in the plugs/electrical system/. Have tried Ignition sealant around the cap/leads dozens of times, this helped a bit, but any combo of cold weather and heavy rain/snow and it happens again. Have tried the archives, and Magnecor leads seem to be the way forward. Now for the questions I can't seem to find the answers to.. 1- Blue or Red leads ? (Standard 97 S1) 2- Elisparts or is there anywhere cheaper 3- Is the standard Dizzy cap OK from eliseparts for this problem 4- Do i need new plugs, or just the above …
