I have been thinking about fitting the hard-top to my Elsie for a couple of weeks now but held off as I do love to drive it with the top off but decided that it should go on today.I got the roof a few months ago new from Peter Smith Sports Cars which is where I got the car from initially but would not order one without the hard-top as it was to be used throughout the winter and is my primary car. The roof cost me £800 and came with a new soft-top as well as my S2 is an early version with the long roof and they converted it to the short roof version at the same time. Basically I got the roof for cost so I would buy the car, so saved about £800 as they retail for about £1600.The roof went on easily even though I was doing it alone until I had to deal with the rear bolts and they were a nightmare. The bracket they hold in place catches on the other bracket attached to the roof and the bolts just wouldn't locate for tightening. With a lot of patience and perseverance I finally got them located and tightened up but it made me glad I only have to do it once a year. The lack of room in the Elise makes this type of job difficult as there is not much room to manoeuvre and at 6'1" I don't make it any easier. Was putting the roof on worth it? Oh yes
The car looks great with the hard-top on and I took it out for a spin (not literally) to see if there were any annoying squeks to contend with so I could re-fit the roof if necessary but it seems fine so that should be it for the winter. The cabin with the roof on is definitely warmer even without the heater on and I am glad I made the decision to have a hard-top when I bought the car initially.
I must admit i have a hard top with mine as well. I think the S1 Elise looks very nice with it on. I expect i will get a lot of stick for saying so mind. You cannot beat one in the winter IMO

Elise in the summer
Elise Coupe in the winter
Loads of people have commented on how cool the car looks with the HT on so I wouldn't worry about anyone elses comments as IMO it looks better than with the soft top. Nothing beats no roof though
